InterMountain factory news update

I went and checked IM's website like I do every so often and this morning I came across their announcement regarding contracts with new manufacturers:



September 2018 InterMountain Manufacturing Update
Last month we notified you that the manufacturer we have been working with for several years had ceased operations and would no longer be supplying finished product to us or any of the several other companies doing business with them. At the same time we said that it was our full intention to move forward, establish new suppliers, and continue the production of new items as soon as possible. If you missed this notification you may read it here: Factory Closure Letter

We are pleased to tell you that we have selected and qualified new suppliers and have issued purchase orders for our initial production runs. Key InterMountain team members will be on site in the new factories in China during the week of September 24th to review assembly samples of initial projects, coordinate their production, establish quality standards and put shipping arrangements in place.

We hope soon to be able to give you more concrete information about the order in which projects will be completed and specific scheduling information. In the meantime, in order to have stock on hand as we come into the heart of the modeling season, please review and take advantage of the IN-STOCK LIST available on our website. We have a large stock of inventory on hand that will be of value during this interim period.

Agreed, very expeditious. With Bluford Shops and now IM having gotten their new contracts, I imagine Atlas and anyone else will be shortly behind.

This sounds like tooling transfer was resolved in a satisfactory manner. That's what takes the time between concept and product. Good news for all.

They'll use the sour cream caulking gun. I wish I could find sour cream in a tube like that...the bag thing is close but...

Good news! IM releases had slowed way down for over a year and hopefully these new factories will help clear the backlog.

I have some IM 2-Bay Covered Hoppers pre-ordered. I did ask them if they were thinking of body mounting the couplers while they were shifting production and I was told that it is a strong possibility, but no guarantee. I hope they make the transition and get everything body mounted on future runs.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on a quick turnaround. How likely is it that these factories are just sitting around with all kinds of excess capacity. My hobby spending has all but dried up and I have lost all interest in the hobby. I think this will be years to resolve and return to normal.
