I believe the DI flats were cast resin (prone to warping) and I'd say MTL didn't have anything to do with them.

  I have some old deluxe cars that had the 3 axle trucks.  Does anyone know if these made by MT?

Only thing MTL had to do with these was the trucks and couplers

MT did for the deluxe cars, but they are not the roller bearing buckeyes, but the old solid bearing buckeyes
