These are test fits of a WM hammerhead cab/short hood from PiperguyUMD's Shapeways store which is to be fused to the long hood of a late phase RS-3 from Mr. Denton's Skytop Models.  They are on the Atlas power chassis and railing/platform assembly of the Atlas RS-3 of Chinese manufacture.  The WM hammerheads were late phase RS-3s.  The Skytop shell is a Northwestern late phase RS-3, thus the carbody filter arrangement is somewhat different from those on the WM's, but, as it has a prominent spotting feature of the late phase RS-3s, a lack of louvers on the long hood doors, I went with it.

Thus far, I am somewhat less than delighted with the fit on the fireman's side, but it fits well on the engineer's side.  A minor amount of work should remedy that.

Once I get it to fit properly, it will be off to Glick's for a can of Bestine for the short hood/cab and a can of mineral spirits for the long hood.  Mr. Denton recommended  mineral spirits to get the mold release off the late phase RS-3 shell.  He instructed me further not to use Bestine on his products.  Most here seem to recommend Bestine for the Shapeways part.  We actually have a Glick's in the Capital of Your Nation.  I must buy a rattle can of gloss black, as well.  I have the fireball decals for it.  Fortunately, there are enough pieces that will not go into the final model to make sure that all parts will stand up to Loc-Tite and rattle can paint.

Here is the fireman's side.  It would not let me put it into my first post.

Well, instead of working on my lime loadout for the Challenge contest ( I really need to get back on that damn it ) , I tackled a couple of decals jobs this evening.  Well, I started them anyway.  I had picked up 2 sets of Winchester & Western GP38 decal sets from CMR a while back.  I cut one of the long hood decals out and something caught my eye.  There are 2 sill stripes on the sheet but they both at the same angle design, when they should have a set of reversed angles, one for engineer and one for conductor side of engine.  So I contacted CMR, pointing out that the image on their website was correct, but decal sheet was not.  They responded back rather quickly stating that someone had already pointed the error out and they corrected the website.  They offered to print new sill stripes and send them in the mail next week.  Excellent customer service !  Since the stripe was correct for the engineer side, I figured I'd get those done for now, and will do the other side tomorrow, sans the stripe until they arrive.

That is the most realistic model length ice deck I have ever seen . Makes a great backdrop seam hide as well .

Brokemoto... will be interesting to see how you approach the handrailing, what with it being so much different than the stock model...

My buddy asked if someone could make a 3D body for his loco if I would put a chassis under it. I ended up doing the whole thing in Sketchup. About a year ago I couldn't do a thing with Sketchup. The real loco was an odd 23" gauge used at a steel mill. He re-gauged it to 24" so he could run it elsewhere if he had the chance.  Here is the 3D model:

And the real thing the day I dropped the model off to him.

He said about a month to get the boiler back, they are putting tubes in it now. The saddle tank is in his garage at home waiting. He said it will be steamed up by June.

Here is the builders photo:

Thank you, Richie!! I dear friend of mine had built it for his layout. After he dismantled his layout, I was fortunate to acquire it.

A bit depressing this weekend.  Here is the current status of the Sub:

Unfortunately the plumber's insurance company has elected to play games and the contractor has moved on to other jobs.  I'm stabilized, and you can see where they cut the drywall away to make sure there was no latent moisture, and it's all good.  When the insurance company (Cincinatti Insurance BTW, and after this I wouldn't touch 'em with a ten foot pole) finally moves, they're ready to patch the drywall and lay the floor and ceiling.

Upstairs - you don't wanna know.  Next step is to move cabinets to remove the flooring under them.  We have no cooktop, oven, or microwave, only the refrigerator.  This is getting old.

The basement will probably be finished long before we have a house again.

It's a long process , bring back many memories I wanted to forget ....
I thought of many alternatives to prevent that from happening again , one of it was a leak detector under all machines in the house with water connection to an electric valve right where the main is coming in . So when there is a leak the valve would shut down everything and damage would be minimal .
Just tought of it , didn't do it ....

Thanks ,
Louis

Oh ***** Chris, that's awesome.

Is it prototypically heavy and dense?
