:ashat: Raccoon, I thought it was a trash panda.  Most likely it is Z scale since looks small for the N scale black widow Fs.

There seem to be a number of plans online.  This one's the same as the MR Cyclopedia (18" x 2).  http://www.alternatewars.com/BBOW/Railroads/EMD_F3_DWG.png .  Probably from a modeler's magazine, though.

I found some of those after I last posted but the issue still holds that I actually measured the distance between two F units that are coupled together and got 41".  For now I'm going with coupler slack.  Maybe someday I'll find another set of F's I can measure.

Ah, that photo.  It goes back few years - it is good to see it again.  IIRC, @Lemosteam has something to do with that racoon.  And no, it is not an actual N scale figure.  That photo also reminded me how oversize the wire handrails are on that model.

Well I found my issue.  While on the grounds it's not something I noticed while measuring the stirrups and taking pictures of the couplers, but the two units at the CRRM are on a slight curve.

Next trip I'll measure both sides.   :P

Just glad I figured it out before someone made me feel like a real stable genius.

At least you owned up and admitted your error in measuring.  :D  We are all human...though some here are probably not.

Yes, I actually prefer the cast-on-handrail style used by Kato.  Their car body is also the correct 14' height right out of the box.  I would have needed a different close-coupling mod, though.  The deciding factor was that Kato had no Black Widow painted F7s.

Yes, we must destroy the Horribly Oversized modeling world and invite everyone to assimilate into the Normal sized modeling world and everything will be right with the world. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I like that idea, but I think it is faulty.  If H0 didn't get introduced, we would all still be running 0 scale trains on 3-rails.   And we couldn't just jump from 0 right to N, because the small electric motors of the time are too large to fit into 1:160 scale models.   I know, I am being logical again.   :)

Um, anything is possible with time travel.  How do you think we got cell phones in the first place?  Spock and Kirk left a tri-corder behind.   :D :D
