stupid low price on bachmann tiny slopeback tender ti 11/27

Maybe not many people need these....

But Klein's is blowing out the few small bachmann tenders they have.

These retail for a stupid high price of $50.   But I commonly see them around $40.   I consider it a steal when I got some a few years back at $14.

Klein's is dumping them at $8 plus you get to take another 10% off with the thanksgiving promo code.  $7.20 is pretty low.
I just bought two.   I'll be adding them to Atlas B&O tiny 0-4-0 to replace the stock tender.

For a few of you.... maybe the low friction trucks might be worth that price.

Thanks Ron, great price! I've acquired a few of these at a much higher price but may buy a few more. The Model Power/MRC shells fit right over them, with very minor modifications for those who don't need slopeback tenders.

On the other hand, I wonder what this means for future products of this type from Bachmann.  It seems to indicate that they are not selling well.  That is a bit of a mystery to me, considering that their all-wheel pickup trucks are almost always sold-out, and the tenders are quite an improvement over stock on most other venors models, and even the Bachmann stock 0-6-0 and 2-6-0 locomotive tenders.

And, just think how great it would be if Bachmann sold separately all of those pieces that appear on their parts drawings for their locomotives.  It would be kitbashing nirvana to have access to all of that material.

I imagine these do not sell well because they're not "plug-and-play" from the standpoint of using them to improve older locos. You need to add wiring and possibly make other modifications, so they're really for the DIY crowd.

Yes, these tenders are all-wheel-pickup. They come in three varities: slope-backed, small-ish and medium-ish. I have a bunch of each; very versatile and useful.

Agreed. Installing these tenders on the model power steamers take them from a Mediocre runner, to excellent runners. It's a little bit of a challenge for the first one or two, but after that, It's not hard at all. I have a 2-6-0, 4-4-0 and a 4-6-2 that all have the Bachmann tender conversion, and they are all awesome runners now. And are among my favorite locomotives. And As said before, the tender body from the 2-6-0 and 4-4-0 are damn near a direct fit to the Bachmann Slope back tenders.

I bought extras of these little tenders to put behind the Atlas 0-4-0 little tiny steamer.
The model is of a B&O prototype.
It takes a little work to adapt the tender connection, but it dramatically increases electrical conductivity.

Actually, Bachman did five versions:
Slope back
USRA short
USRA medium
USRA long
Vanderbilt six axle

The vandy and long tenders sold out within a year or two. The rest have been in stock forever. Bachmann did publicly state that they will not produce stand alone tenders again.

Well, they could be plug-and-play, with the wiring plug that Bachmann is now using.  That way, somebody could buy the loco (s)he wants with only the features (s)he wants, and even upgrade a second-hand purchase by buying new tenders, because the electronics that provide the dc or dcc and sound or no sound are all in the tenders, now.   That would also provide easy diagnosis of "loco won't run" problems and easy fixes for the electronics causes.  And, Bachmann would have parts so that its "lifetime warranty" could be an actual warranty with repair possibilities, rather than "we sold-out that one, so here is another type of loco that costs the same."

The newer versions of these things have the decoder plug in the tender.  This makes it easy even for straight DC guys like me (or as "straight" as rectified DC can be).  All that is necessary is to wrap the stripped wire ends around the outer two prongs on each side, add a dot of solder, replace the shell and the locomotive is ready to go.  This does assume, of course, that you already have dealt with the drawbar connexion. As delamaize correctly indicates, swapping the stock MP tender for one of these gives you a real winner of a locomotive.  I have Pacifics, Mikados, Eight-Wheelers and Moguls that have those tenders and they are excellent power.  MRC finally did add an all-wheels live tender to the mogul and is supposed to add it to the eight-wheeler, as well.  Hopefully, in subsequent runs of the Pacific and Mikado, it will do the same.
