Time to get started... SD40-2s and SD35 trucks

It's time to get going on upgrading my SD40-2s to go full Conrail on em.

Now, before I start slicing up the existing trucks, can someone do me a favor?

If you have an Atlas SD35, can you see if its trucks fit in the IM SD40-2? If so, life will be wonderful (and I'll find a way to suitably show my appreciation).

Not a direct swap Ed.  In following pictures, SD35 is back/top and SD40-2 is front/bottom (one with ton o' grease).  The Atlas truck has a housing around/above the gears that prevents it from being installed into the SD40-2 frame.  You can see this with the 1st picture, perhaps that could be removed ?  I did not investigate further into that option.

Look at the early flexicoil side frame to see if it can be fitted to the late version gearbox rather than trying to make the gearboxes fit.   
I'd check myself but don't have any -2 units.

failing all else you can sand the detail off of the HTC truck and glue a thinned Flexicoil side frame to it...

I did this as an experiment with Kato trucks and the offset axle is hardly noticeable imo...

probably more work to type this then it was to do it, and looks better then a carved up HTC...

I tried swapping sideframes between the two and neither really wanted to mesh together.  It's close but something is off just enough....

I have been trying to prod CESM to make flexcoil side frames for the Atlas HTC truck, but he is not yet convinced to do it. This would be a perfect item for the acrylic black material.

Actually, he probably could do well with a better detailed HTC side frame as well. The Atlas one looks off, especially compared to the Kato version.

I used Kato trucks on my SD50. It took some modifying of the mechanism to get them to work though.

Does anyone know if the HTC trucks under these are the same as the Atlas ones?

They are exactly the same as the Atlas HTC trucks.

Hate to ask a stoopid question but could someone post a side by side comparison of the trucks? I'm not quite sure what the differences are you all are talking about.
