The Canadian - Vintage CPR advertising video

Just came across this 1955 video showing The Canadian in all its stainless steel glory:

This video does not belong to me, but I thought it deserved to be shared.

           "Not Enough Domes." That was the only fault this train had only two dome cars the California Zephyr that the Canadian was often compaired to had five domes most of the time. I can attest (rode  the train Eastbound in summer 1969 from Vancouver during the Action Red era)  that you claimed a dome seat early after breakfast and were reluctant to give it up until way after lunch or you had to detrain in Baniff for a several day stop over. With the heavy summer season traffic the train I rode had two dining cars spaced out in the train, one among the sleepers, and one in the usual location after the Skyline car and before the sleepers, there ware also two baggage dorm cars to accommodate the extra crew. CP could have run an extra Skyline car and not activated the coffee shop in that car, but they never did. Of course the now Via Rail Canada version of the train runs on the former competing CN Super Continental route through Jasper, the train has been up scaled into a mostly Train Lux, on a reduced frequency, a few more days during the tourist season, but it does have more domes as the Skyline cars have been made into mini diners, and there are usually two sometimes three spaced throughout the consists, along with the full diner.                                                        Nate Goodman (Nato).

Agreed, the original trainsets could have used more dome cars.

We rode the VIA Rail version of the Canadian last year, it was a 23 car consist with 3 skyline cars, the panorama car (Colorado Railcar single level dome) and the park car, for a total of 5 domes! Food was served in two dining cars and snacks/drinks were always available in the skyline and park cars. It was a fantastic trip!
