You live, work, or own property next to a railroad, you get trains.  Sometimes the trains sit still.  That's the nature of railroads!  Just like airports have airplanes flying around.

I worked at a golf course and it always amazed me of those that live on the golf course complaining about golf balls in their yard or a broken window. They always want the GC to pay for "surprise" damage even thought the resident knowingly moved into a house with an active golf course in their back yard.
You knew the railyard was there when you wanted rezone (from industrial no less) the land for residential use.

How about this: blame the crooked city officials that probably got bribed to rezone the land. Even if no palm-greasing took place, the city will I'm sure welcome more tax revenues coming from the properties which will be built on that land.

I'm curious what the definition  is of "cars parked in the street"
.. not sure that'd be allowed in true street running territory.. but track adjacent to street or between divided highway is fare game.

Or if the track was there first, and the street built around it.  Especially if the railroad owns the land, and all the city has is an easement, that gives the railroad the right of way.  That wasn't unheard of in old industrial areas, when trucks started to replace trains as the most common transport.

Those freight cars parked in the middle of the street are just like a median . . . made of freight cars.    Judging by the rust on those wheel treads, they've been there a while.
