That's probably a lot more than $500 in paint, just for the orange.
I have always wondered about that - the spray paints are expensive and the graffiti on railroad equipment is as large as painting couple of rooms in a house. Those taggers must get their money somewhere. So they are either gainfully employyed (and making decent salaries) or are criminals making money on illicit activities. I also wonder if they look at their activities as a hobby (they probably spend more on their hobby than we do on ours), or as art (like artists that practice legal art)?
Likely they are gainfully employed, rather then criminals... I work with a former tagger that became interested in railroads through tagging and now is a conductor, he was simply a suburban kid with a job in his street art days...I also suspect someone on Aware's or Bansky's level has patrons that assist them financially in their endevors...
For those who don't know about Aware and the Indecline movement, this is a relatively small tag. They pulled off the worlds largest tag in California. They covered an entire runway (1200+ feet long IIRC). You can see their work all over the world now. They are a well oiled machine.
It will be interesting to see how UP responds and what they do with the locomotive... I would assume they can't leave it like that for too long since it no longer meets FRA Regs. A: Reapply initials, numbers, safety stickers to meet FRA requirements and release for service.B: Repaint and put back into storage.~Ian
