This brought to mind Russ Straw and many other N Scalers who are in the areas impacted by the storm.

I am sure the military is looking to see if they can do what nature did .

I haven turned off TWC since this got close to the coast .

I have been checking /avoiding buying anything on eBay from that area .

Surprised no reports of Gaters or snakes . Be interesting to see if this winds up worse than Katrina money wise .

I hope Russ and everybody else lucks out and doesn't lose life , house , hope . But everybody is a foregone impossibility .

I wonder if the water well and aquifers will get polluted .

At this point my neighborhood is still high and dry although there is flooding all around and it is still raining.
Also, one of the tornadoes from yesterday touched down about 2 miles from where I am (on the NW side of town) but luckily no damage for me.

well I have lived on the east side for 26 years and we have never have this much water in the time period. It seems we were under a big red blob on the radar since last night and just now about 6pm it looks like we might get a break. Hoping for so the ditches can drain off and get the water away from the house. Problem is there are calling for flooding rain for the next three days!!! we would be fine if we can get a break between storms, but not sure that is going to happen. We have never had water in the house but it is getting real close now. Hoping for the best!!! Gordon

Good luck.  Storm is forecasted to move back to southeast back into the gulf, turn back north to make a second landfall and pass directly over Houston Wednesday morning.

I'm west of downtown Houston just a few blocks from Buffalo Bayou, and have lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years. I have never seen so much water in my life. We've gotten almost 18" of rain the past 24 hours, and are expecting that much more over the next three days.  We just got back from Wyoming on Friday before the rain got too bad. My sister can't get back home from a vacation in Mexico. I'm not too worried about water in my house, the bayou would have to rise another 15 feet or so. But Houston will be a mess for months to come, sadly.

Gordon, hope you and our TRW friends survive safely and without much damage.. I have never been affected by floods/flooding,however  my work in local government has seen a lot of damage and record floods over time
Cyclone 'Debbie' that past over here a few months ago created flooding and resultant damage,loss of stock,sheds,houses with more than 5 feet of water over known flood levels in the area.

Hi Jim,
    Thank goodness we got a break last night and the ditches have drained off, things are much better today. But it would only take about an hour or two of heavy rain and we would be in trouble. I duct taped up the front door to the train room as we had a bit of water get blown in. The layout is 42" off the floor and the books are all about 6" above the floor on a shelf. Now they are releasing water out of Lake Conroe upstream from us and we already have houses on the lake starting to flood. Thank goodness I am in the cheap seats and not on the lake, and the two large reservoirs are now starting to release water so the flooding is about to get worst. I think if we do not get and long lasting heavy rain we will be ok.
