Here's the first three releases of the "new" updated boxcars...

Which one is prototypical? The GM&O box car, the ATSF box car or the DRGW box car?

The GM&O box car looks awesome. I'm going to order one. Did they ever travel to Chicago, perhaps on the CB&Q?

Um, the GM&O went to Chicago itself.  But regardless of that, I'm sure these cars traveled the whole country.  (Edit:  Here's evidence.)

Looks like MT worked from this photo for the ATSF car.   The height looks off, but I can't tell how much is carbody and how much is ride height.

Here's the DRGW car. Best of the bunch, in my opinion.  Notwithstanding the door width.

The door width may not be as bad as you think.  Most DD cars have an 8' and 7' door for a 15' total opening.  The MTL 8' door is actually only 7 1/2' so two make 15'.

Thanks. But the door is totally wrong.        What a pity.

To be fair, MTL doesn't have that door style available to select. If the car height was correct, it would be easy enough to rapid-prototype a new door for further accuracy.

For the GM&O car doors you could steal some off of a Roundhouse/Athearn boxcar. That'll get you 90% there.

Even though the car is too tall, the door height is still correct.  For example, you can put an Atlas PS-1 door on an MTL car.  However, the width of the MTL door opening for the 6' door is slightly wider and could start to show through unless you perfectly align the door.

So are the ends and roof.  No real need to hangup over the door style.

There's a video on the boxcars on their Facebook page. Not whole lot of changes made to these in my opinion one big thing is they still have truck mounted couplers

Yah, I thought better of myself once I went back.  But if you actually knew what it has cost MT in tooling alone not getting a car right you would think that they would learn from it.  But no... they keep making the same sort of mistakes... so why bother chiding them.

Glad no one on Railwire never slips up...
Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor!

So @Shipsure, are the new box cars lowered with body mount couplers or not?

The car in the picture isn't a PS-1....

The MDC PS doors are based on a later design where not all of the corrugations are the same width.

It may be easier to shorten a MTL PS door:
