Dave, looking hood (good) Sir.  I especially liked that snippet of experience and knowledge about the polio bond (Pliobond) (darn auto correct again) 😊 and the the soldering iron technique on attaching the guard rails. I would never have thought of that.

Thanks, guys!  This afternoon, I began the process of moving the layout.  First, I had to physically cut the A&R track, to allow the layout to separate from the wall and the two staging yards.  Several days ago, when I was thinking ahead, I flooded the area around the cut with CA.  This would, hopefully, hold the curved track in alignment without too much kinking.



And the result was success!



Not sure I want to go through moving the layout again, because I just about painted myself into a corner with track joining the main layout from multiple directions.  However, since the three-way turnout that joins to the Seaboard Central's yard is not glued down, I tucked a piece of cork roadbed under the end of it, so that its rails could clear all six rails to the yard tracks.  This made the difference and allowed the layout to pull away from the wall without damage, once I disconnected two plugs in the bus wires and removed one screw to the wall and the two carriage bolts to the SC yard.  Not so bad now, but once that three-way turnout is glued down, moving the layout won't be possible without figuring some alternative to allow the tracks in the Seaboard Central yard to separate without snags.





Priming and paint will be the next step.  I will also keep the layout away from the wall for a while, so I can easily reach that unfinished scenery behind the trestle.

So Dave, for someone color blind you sure got a great color match of the backdrop primer coat and the sewer pipe 😁
Seriously though, I can’t see the seams in the backdrop so that sparkling job was spot on.

Haha!  I primed the PVC sewer pipe, too.

Thank you for the compliments.  That primer should ensure that the eventual paint matches across the Masonite and the lightweight spackling I used.  Otherwise, I would imagine that the two dissimilar surfaces would have absorbed the paint differently, highlighting the joints.

I probably should have used actual joint compound, but (A) it's what I had, and (B) the lightweight spackling is more flexible and can go on thicker.  But, since people won't really be able to reach the two joints in the backdrop too easily, I shouldn't have to worry about the joints being more fragile than if I had used joint compound.
