Oh, man, that's great news.  Since I'm red-green colorblind, I had no idea how the rest of you would see it.

I was about to say the EXACT same thing. I'd have never known. Same thing with the lettering. In real life it'd likely be hand painted anyway.

I mean, look at 90s's cab numbering.

You're right, I never noticed No. 90's lettering.  But, then again, we're not usually up that close.  That said, my macro picture of "Gull" is way larger and closer than it appears in person, too.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to tell everyone that I converted the friction bearings to roller bearings, but I left the lids on.  They're good.   

Not sure what "non part 223 glazing" is, but if you're referring to the window glass, that's beveled glass.  You pay extra for that!

The legal department of the SC ought to know that, in regard to the FRA requirements for safety (window) glazing, Part 223 has an exclusion for rail cars that are "historic" or more than 50 years old and are used only for private transportation purposes.
Then, again, the windows in the model are made of plastic.

I got one side decaled tonight.  The Seaboard Central easily fit, although it isn’t perfect due to the individual letters being a challenge.  I’ll do better on the other side.  I hope.

I tried to remove the white Amtrak lettering in the red stripe only to confirm my worst fear: the red was painted over the white.  In other words, trying to remove the white was only successful in removing the red stripe.  I then tried to lay a full decal over the entire stripe, but the windows caused all sorts of problems.  Oh, and there is no way to disassemble this car.  It’s glued together.  So, I laid down a piece of red trim film only over the small section of red stripe where the Amtrak lettering was.  It’s not a terrible match to my colorblind eye.

I was going through my SAL decals and found a car name, “Gull.”  Perfect!  So, Gull it is, and I gave it a number 4, implying some history on the SC.  The 4 is also much more visible than a 1, because the SCL number “1” looks like an “l.”

Dave, my son is color blind too. So I’m guessing you wire a layout with black and white wires, or perhaps “what ever that color is” and white.  But how do you manage with decoder wiring.?

BTW and back on track, like I see someone else commented, I too would not have noticed that red patch until you pointed it out.   Yes, it is very slightly darker but hey, a real railroad would have used the closest they had too, so looks very prototypical.

Get an N scale white seagull and slap it over the decal stripe.  It would stand out nicely and divert attention from the camouflage.

I agree, and I actually tried this.  But, the bird decals are too large to fit between those windows.

Generally, I can figure it out by deductive reasoning, but, when I get really stuck, I ask my wife or my daughter.  Yeah, that's right, I've been known to rely on an eight-year-old's eyes.

That's what I figure, too.  Heck, even if it was the same paint, the original paint's weathering would cause that minor difference when the patch was applied years later.

Dave...fine job on the Oscar. I had to go back and look a 3rd time to figure out where
there was a different shade of red. Looking good!

I got out the static grass applicator to make this layout a little more springlike:





Pardon the wet glue at the bottom of the slope.  Progress being made little by little.  When this dries, I’ll start adding static grass to this side of the tracks.

Probably, but I have so much trouble matching those effects.  Maybe I’ll drybrush some brown along there.  I don’t know.

I also want to model springtime with lush foliage and flowering plants.  Maybe the weed control train hasn’t come by yet.  Besides, wait till you see what I do with the kudzu.
