Rerun of Kato Morning Daylight

I received mine today.  GS-4 and cars all checked out as usual Kato quality.  I bought two of the add on articulated coaches but, as has already been pointed out, the lettering is so small that I likely won't bother with the decals.  I may double head the new 4449 with my 4450 as a photo op, but likely not a routine operation.  I don't believe the SP ever did this, instead using other locos if needed as "helpers."  Somebody else can and should correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Speaking of diesels, I'm looking for the road number 6055 PA-1 Daylight to complete an ABBA set if anybody has one to sell or knows where one might be.....

Ive watched a show on the Daylight, and it did show a few times with two GS's double heading up the grade, as well as a Cab Forward and 2-10-2 too.

That is usually true with pure DC throttle, but with either a pulsed DC throttle or even better, with a DCC decoder, you can get the 3-pole motor running very smoothly at very low speeds.  Especially with a well-made mechanism in Kato locos. At least in my experience.

Yes, like I said I expect a lot. I can still tell a 3 pole with or without DCC.

Are those waterside decals or plastic peel-&-stick stickers (that Kato usually uses)?

Where has Kato used stickers for lettering? Is it on their Euro/Japanese equipment?
Unless I've missed it I haven't come across it on any North American Releases.

Yes, I have few Shinkansen sets (and other Kato non-railroad items) where they include self-adhesive plastic stickers.  Did they ever include waterslide decals in any of their US-prototype models?  I don't' ever remember seeing Kato waterslide decals.

As far as I know transfers of any kind is a new thing for Kato USA.

That is my thought exactly - I was surprised when I first encountered them.  Must be a "Japanese thing".  Peel-n-stick is much quicker and less messy than waterslide, but the stickers, while thin, are much thicker than waterslide decal film.

Isn't this exactly why Kato has released both versions of the cars?  (i.e. with and without the "Lines" lettering)

Kato refers to them as decals, so I suspect that is exactly what they are.  I don't believe that they were included with the original announcement of this release, so they may be a response to buyers' concerns about Kato not offering more than one articulated coach add on set for this release.  IIRC, the four add on sets took much longer to sell out than the base 10 car set for the previous release, so this is probably a reasonable compromise on Kato's part.  I suspect that many/most modelers will either cap their purchase of this release at 12 cars, or buy multiple add on sets but not bother with the decals.  I bought two of the add ons.  I may buy the decals when they are available, but it will probably be for whoever ultimately buys these things from my heirs.

I often see self-adhesive labels called "decals", so that is not a guarantee.  Still, someone who bought the set should be able to easily tell us what kind of "decal" they included with the set.

The decals are not included with either the 10 car set or the articulated coach add on.  They are a separate Kato "part."

Thanks, so if I buy this set and wait for Daylight diesels, to run this set behind them "as is" would be a faux pas?

Those look like typical Kato stickers, but the photo is not good enough to really tell if they are adhesive stickers or waterslide decals.
