Dual gauge, clearly. Must be for operating on the 5' gauge in the Southeast.

Definitely looking forward to more progress reports! Thanks, Jason!

After all these years, this model is coming true. Thanks Jason and thanks Mike!
I wonder how the electric wheel pickups were solved, and whether the model will have illuminated interior and be shipped assembled in a long box?  I guess I'll find out when I buy one.  :D

Any chance of opening nose doors and a coupler so that it can be run in this configuration:

Proto:160 option, perhaps?   (now that would be way awesome!)   :ashat:

I'm pretty sure they were only on the NE corridor in the US. I don't think they dropped below Toronto in Canada.

For regularly-scheduled service, yes, but Amtrak did a promotional tour in '71. I've found photos online showing they made it to Los Angeles and other points on the West Coast, as well as Florida.

I've been trying to find an itinerary for that tour, but so far no luck. However, I would bet it was documented in Trains.

Looks like a flying train that eats other trains.  Very cool.  I don't model Canadian but I have always had a soft spot for these guys...If finances allow...I will get one of these for sure.
