Security problems w/ TRW website?
« on: March 22, 2017, 08:43:27 PM »
I've been getting a message saying something about the TRW certificate not matching the site name or somesuch gobbledygook when I log it sometimes. Something wrong on that that end or this?

Nothing wrong on my system.  Been having issues over at NSN though, but that's malware attacks.

What do you see in the URL bar right now?  Something that starts like this:

https://therailwire.net/forum/index.php?to........

or

The problem comes and goes. I just "accept" going through and get to the site. But you never know with all these updates to security I get from MS and Norton, it might be there's so glitch on their end.

I wonder if it's something with ads.  When I clicked to type this response, instead of green lock at top, I had yellow triangle saying connection not secure (it had https:) Saying parts of site may not be secure, such as images.  When the post reply page came up, ad changed and I now have a green lock again.

Follow up, I notice this only occurs when I am inside of a thread.  Haven't had it happen on the home page, or the divisions, but when I click on a topic/thread, the yellow triangle comes up

Like Mu26aeh, I also get the yellow triangle, and in Firefox, clicking on it gives the message "Connection is not secure.  Parts of this page are not secure (such as images)"

Isn't Firefox part of Yahoo?

Unfortunately, since I allow folks here to link to their images hosted on other sites that may be using the http protocol (instead of https), Railwire will load with mixed content which in some browsers will be interpreted as a security concern.

But all Railwire-core actions are through https and ssl and therefore your password is secure as it is transmitted through your browser to the Railwire server for authentication.

Tom's signature image isn't secure.   :)

My profile picture isn't and Chris's signature and profile picture aren't secure either.

At least that's what the developer tools tell me.

edit: I'm no longer an offender.  :)

Chriss333:  As far as I know Firefox and Yahoo are separate.  Yahoo does pay Mozilla, Firefox's owner/creator, a sizable fee to have Yahoo as the default search engine, which Google did until 2014, but as far as I could find that's the only connection.  Changing the default is easy, and I seldom use the Firefox search box anyway, going straight to Google's search page.
