Peteski just posted his dissection of the new ESU board in the "Mysteries of the IM SD40-2" thread, but since that thread has drifted (and is now pretty long), here's a link to his post about the possibilities of adding keep-alive to that board:
https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=40941.msg516714#msg516714Doing this will require a small soldering iron with as small a tip as one can imagine; my 1/64" conical on my Pace soldering station should do the trick, but don't try it with a RS 40-watt iron!
I suspect that this new board will also appear in the upcoming sound-equipped Atlas C630's, and this same information also should be applicable to the "retrofit" board that will be released soon by ESU. So my thanks to Peteski for his diligent detective work!
