What is a metric ton? Is it bigger or smaller than a normal ton? :?

Specifically, 2204.62 pounds.  A lot easier is 1.1 short tons, at least for me, as that can be calculated in my head.

I've never heard "megagram". although that would be correct.

I have seen "megameter" and "gigameter", but not often.
