Pam,
Thanks for the notification. I did subscribe, however, due to the cost to send to Australia I dropped my subscription. I was encouraged by this info so went to the web site to look at re subscribing. However, I dont understand how or why the digital only version is the same price as the paper version. $80 per year for a digital version is out of the ball park from my point of view.
Happy to chat off line if you like.
Thanks.
Rgds Brendan....

I notice that PRINT version in US is 38$, as well the digital one
but delivery (download) a digital version from outside US i guess that cost the sase as dowload in US?

I looked too and was dismayed to see that delivering electrons is more expensive out of the country.  It is unfortunate, as many potential non-US subscribers choose not to because of the price differential.

Content publishers are all scrambling to figure out digital pricing...

Likewise advertisers are equally unsure about the ROI of their ads that appear in digital publications.

Yeah, but having it cost different amounts based on country is just silly.

Hopefully it is a mistake on the ordering page on the website. I agree that it makes no sense to charge export rates for digital version of the magazine (since it is accessed over the Internet (not mailed).

Also from Australia, I had to ditch both of the N Scale specialist mags due to the over the top pricing, I'm not a real fan of digital, but if it was affordable, then I would most certainly be interested.

Of course.

Probably just a mistake on the part of the publisher.

Glad to see that I am not the only one perplexed by this.  I would subscribe to the digital edition for $38 US.  I won't for $55 US, which is the Canadian price.

We are fed all kinds of bull, in Canada, about why the same item is the twice the price here than it is in the US. That all kind of came to a head a few years ago when the dollar was nearly at par and guess what, stuff was still way more expensive here. We used to get the excuse that it was all about the exchange rate. But there was no massive correction. We then got the excuse that it's distribution costs, geography,  blah blah blah. I was told once by an American friend whose in marketing that we are charged more because we'll pay it. Sure we belly ache, but we still consume. If you want it you pay for it. Simple as that.

When things exist digitally, since you are paying for the content only, and not the paper that it's printed on, and there are no distribution costs then it should be cheaper than the print version, and the same price no matter where you are on the planet. It doesn't cost any more to Email it to Canada or Aus. We're being charged more because we've always been charged more.

Sorry if that comes off rude or sarcastic but when you can finally strip alway all of the excuses and are left with a digital file in an email it becomes obvious, well to me anyway.

My antivirus software costs the same every year here, as it does in the US.

I used to subscribe to the magazine but it got so I couldn't justify the expense. I'd be interested in a cheaper digital edition. I could probably use a proxy and order as though I'm in the US, but I won't be subscribing unless it's the same price.

@Pamela Clapp : would it be possible for you to explain this, or if this is a mistake, make the price of the digital subscription not dependent on the subscribers address?

Oh yes.  I know they do.

But it doesn't mean they're effective... Could mean they're very inexpensive (which wouldn't surprise me).

Most of the ads I've seen there are brand-building ads that can't be tracked or measured for effectiveness.

A Digital Magazine that is FREE. Their subscriber base is the selling point, that is why it's also free to subscribe to Model Railroad Hobbyist.

Pete, I think you and everyone else needs to contact Pamela at the magazine and ask her this question. Maybe it's just me, but it seems she drops these updates on the various N scale web site forums and rarely answers any questions from the forum members. Who knows, maybe Walt will even post a few questions with answers in the "Letters to the Editors" column.
