It amuses me that the on-stage/off-stage split is about 50/50. It makes sense given what you've got, but it's just amusing in general.

And how else do you expect him to replicate the traffic volume required?

Unless you use a h---x and hide the staging yard under the layout.

Unless you use a h---x and hide the staging yard under the layout.

I've done it before and I'm sure I'll do it again.

But for this I decided to use the available square footage and keep the portability of the modules.

I'll now have 2 configurations, Original oval or staging yard. All I have to do is put the "end cap" back on.

It amuses me that the on-stage/off-stage split is about 50/50. It makes sense given what you've got, but it's just amusing in general.

It amuses me too! But like you and @Philip H said theres no other way!

So this is the core of a layout that will eventually be very very large? As you add sections ...

Been working on the plan for staging expansion now that 80% of the framing is done for the wall construction.

The large staging yard will return loop around a column and though a opening in the wall. I did this mainly to save space in the rest of the room and add some interesting benchwork.

2 new "Standard" 6' modules will be constructed one going in the bottom right to give the coal tipple the proper space for empties to be dropped and loaded then picked up.
The other new module will go in the top left and be used for an industrial switching area that will expand onto the new modules.

2 "unique" modules will be used to bridge the gap to the HCD staging yard and return loops. with running tracks for the mains, staging tracks and a reversing loop using the center of the yard.(Though I`m playing around with changing that)

Current status of the layout is covered in plastic. At some point I`ll have to move it out of the space to make room for the drywall to be installed and hung

This soffit was a bit of a pain but the net gain was almost a foot of room for the layout, which you can see by the plan was needed to expand the aisles.

I was able to get some work done on the layout before I switched to wall building.

Really happy with how this warehouse was turning out, thanks to @Ed Kapuscinski answering my call for wall sections to make a great industry with room for 4 40' boxes.

I also installed some rubber rock walls for my rock cut area.

My wife tried her hand at adding some grass to the small patch of houses.

Basically it can be, I think at some point it will end up being a long dead end branch off a larger layout(use them all in a straight line), but for now this is the extend of the plans.

You can see I also dropped one of the current U sections to add in this, I`ll leave it in the corner for now maybe one day it`ll come back to life....

Drywall is up in layout room. I contracted out the drywall after doing all the framing and electrical myself.
Ceiling has also been insulated to help block noise from traveling upstairs

I’m thinking carpet for the layout room after the walls and paint are done

The layout is currently disassembled on the other side of a plastic wall

One assumes the drywall guys will tape and float as well?  Looks great otherwise.

Yep that was the whole reason I hired them!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen drywall hung vertically.  🤷🏽‍♂️

Primer is down

The color we picked is a light tan for the walls. I might go back and paint some of it blue later for backdrops

Also picked out flooring, I was hoping to install this weekend but still waiting on the underlayment/vapor barrier

I also started taking inventory of what I`ll need for the add on modules amounts to another $1k worth of stuff track, cork, wiring. BUT I am adding about 54' of mainline run and some 200' of track in staging.

Though the yard is a 7 track loop I lose 2 to mainline trains and 1 for the reversing loop so I actually only have 4 staging tracks.
