I think this is the first time in 10 years I'm going to miss it. I'll be in Thailand at the new house.

It is the largest model RR show on the East Coast, and one of the largest in the country.  It really takes couple of days to take it all in. Maybe you could make a full weekend?

Think of it this way, you'd be driving one hour per acre of trains. It is 8 acres of trains. Two days is a must.

Consider this.  I have driven the eight to ten hours from the Capital of Your Nation to the parents in Ipswich.   (Actual travel time depends on how frequently GF wants to stop for coffee, snacks, bathroom.).   We then drive the ninety to one hundred twenty minutes from Ipswich to Springfield.  (Again, actual travel time depends on how frequently GF wants to stop).  Usually, there is snow there, it is snowing or snow is on the way.   We would do it, again.

Like others have said, I would do it.  At least once for sure.  This is one of those "bucket list" train shows. 

I made time to stop by in Jan 2005 (even though I lived in Calif at the time), and always remember that visit fondly.

What makes this show especially worthwhile attending is the large number of manufacturers who participate and the wide variety of operating layouts on display.
Other than Trainfest or the NMRA national show, it's a rare opportunity to meet many of the makers of the model railroad products we buy.

Depending upon where you live, Amtrak to Springfield, MA or a flight into BDL are other travel options.

If you've never before attended the show, it's useful to download the list of exhibitors and the map of the exhibit halls to determine in advance what you might particularly want see and where it is located within the four separate buildings.

Maybe we should try to set up another unofficial Railwire  meet?  Last year we met at the Atlas display and IIRC, Cory R. took the group photo. But Cory is not with Atlas anymore.
