Walthers GP60

I purchased some walthers gp60's that I'm told may have some pizza cutter wheels!  I haven't received them yet so I'm not sure.  I'm using code 55, so I'm guessing they might not work!  Has anybody done a wheel swap with these units?  What did you use?  Did you do something else besides using different track?  Thanks!

I just happen to have one of the LL/Walthers(basically the same aren't they?) GP60's sitting here.  I don't know when it was made I got it 2nd hand.  I have Atlas code 55 it just dawned on me that I had put Atlas GP trucks on the LL GP18 I have as the flanges hit the spike heads a lot of the time.  I ran the GP60 around and it didn't seem to do that like the LL GP18 or early GP38-2's did.   You didn't say what brand of code 55 you have so that might not even have to be a concern if your using Peco code 55.  I did try some Atlas GP trucks in the LL GP60 mech since the shells are off and being painted to see what would happen.  The Atlas truck seemed to let the LL mechanism ride just a bit lower and the fuel tank very close to the rail hitting it in some spots.  On the 2 early GP38-2's I have I used some spare Kato wheel sets from some old and broken SD40-2 mid-pro trucks I had.  The needle axle on the end is longer and has actually worn a small hole in the axle cup of the little brass side piece for the trucks.  But that does not seem effect their operation so far.  Just a little finicky on some less than perfect track.   Hope this helps.

Nope, no issues at all with code 55. Does not matter what brand. If they have pizza cutters, then they were changed.

Most pizza cutters worked fine on Railcraft/ME code 55 as well, at least the stuff made before the mid 90s.  I haven't tried any track from later than than.

The only locos I have that absolutely won't work on ME track are the 1960s/70s Arnold stuff, but even it RUNS on the track, and runs quite nicely, if you ignore the bouncing.  Not just on the spikes, they don't like code 55 soldered to PC ties.  Says something for their electrical pickup that they'll run with the wheels off the rail half the time...

I'm using Atlas code 55 and I'll know when units get here this week!  Thanks for all the input!
