Great looking truck, but I suspect it's too modern for my 1974 railroad, although I'd love to have it.

Does anyone know when the tall sleepers were first used?   The tractor looks fine, and it wouldn't bother me to have the "too modern" paint scheme.

I got an eMail from Pat Sanders yesterday that has a paragraph on each of these trucks with the owners name and a brief history . I had looked it over and deleted it . I tried to grab it from the web but couldn't find it . Trainworx has a facebook site , maybe it is there . I don't do facebook .

Hey Mike, That's cool!  And you are joined by Mt Rainier's own John Patten Heavy Haul. I wonder if we could get a discount.
I wonder if they would be interested in doing Crazy Horse Portable Parking Lot !!

When does Russ get his own truck?

That would be a swift truck, miles from where it should be, most likely broke down, and on fire, shoved under a low overpass, with a clueless dispatcher on the line......

If this run does good, there will be more in a series to follow. The 2 KW trucks can be used on layouts from 1972 to the present.

Sweet...I'd be happy if Athearn would re-run the Ford C-Series box trucks...so I didn't need a rape shower when I find the odd ones still floating around...

Since we are taking an OT diversion, it would be nice if Athearn re-run all of their N scale vehicles: the tow trucks, fire engines, Ford C-Series, buses, and even the John Deere tractors.  Well, I know that they will not re-run those tractors (I was told due to licensing issues), but it would be good to see the others.

I have several C-Series trucks with Postal Service graphics. I bought them at a very deep discount several years ago.  That in itself might be a telltale sign that they didn't sell as well as expected (at least that particular run). I'm fairly certain that the ones decorated for Coca-Cola sold well.

For a long time the eBay prices for the postal trucks have been hovering around $10 a piece. The fire trucks are now running over $40 if New in package. The railroad related stake bed and. I'd trucks are around $30. I'd say athearn could justify another run.

and even the John Deere tractors.

The tractors would be nice since they never did the 4020's.  I'd be in for 40-50 of those.

When I spoke with Athearn sales rep. few years ago they said that they will not make any more of these due to licensing issues - they didn't get into any details. So, no more tractors (old or new models).  NSC NSE has released several models featuring John Deere tractors. When I asked Dean D. (who was the person who created that model) where he bought those tractors, he told me that his friend or acquaintance had a stash of them acquired when they were still available and Dean was able to get him to sell enough from his stash to make that special-run car.

Well then---keep hoping . . .

This was not a discussion with a sales rep. at some show. I either contacted then through email or called on the phone, dealing directly with the "mothership".
