One thing is the link CNR5529 are Canadian prices. US price looks like it would be 139 for an A unit and 129 for a B DC which is in line with Intermountain A units. Since Dealers will have these so I would suspect there could be lower prices but as said margins are probably tight.

     thanks for reminding me of those Test FA-2s.
  actually saw one of the B units at Spadina in the 70s,and have
  a slide of it somewhere.
  those CN units were successful,while NYC wasnt as thrilled with
  thier converted FA-2.
   Edit-- actually with a Fleet the size of NYCs,Cost to repower too many locos may have
            been the main factor in NYC not doing any other FAs with 251s.

  the Repowered Katy Alcos are getting more mysterious  now.
  first found that Katy did the Repowering,now have found a reference
  that they were repowered at the Alco factory.
  so this opens another can of worms,which reference is Correct ?
  the Katy repowered Alcos and Baldwins by EMD were done at LaGrange
  by EMD,so it could be that the Alcos repowered by Alco were done there ?
  still believe the Alcos got 250 engines in any case.

Only two were repowered by Alco so as to evaluate the value of this... FA1s #329A & 329C (later #85A & 85C) repowered by Alco 1956.  All others were done by EMD.  At least one received Precision National green and yellow paint when sold...

   the Diesel Era MKT article also says that 2 RS-3s went to Alco for
  replacement engines in 1956.
   they didn't get RS-11 style hoods like the NKP AS16s,or the C&NW RS-3s
  got when 251s were installed.
   have read that Alco started the Replacement Program for 244s about 1952.
  locos would get the latest 244G or 244-H blocks,but around 1956/57 they
  started calling it the 250 Replacement Program.
  did any of the MKT locos that went to Alco get sent to EMD after 1959 ?

According to the roster I linked too none were repowered by ALCO, all were done by EMD in '59.  Would believe the DE article... they are usually very, very accurate with the information they present.  Does DE provide a photo of the rebuilds?  Would bet that, like the New Haven units that were repowered, the exhaust stack panel likely was raised to accept the newer engine's turbocharger (not necessary on the cab units that were repowered).

Makes about $750 for an ABA, still expensive but small company limited run... ...and based off his past offerings that is with minimal mark up on his part. Part of the issue of producing through a middle man, that being said I'm happily buying 35$ gondolas

My mistake. I thought the listing was per loco, not for a two unit set.

I get all the industry economics of a small producer brining a niche model to market, and I guess in many ways that these are even being offered is a good sign, but pardon my sticker shock.
