Ed, an MKT unit is a good buy for a 80's CR modeler. As it srands I'm on the hunt for a CR unit with sound to run with my MKT units.

As a side note, I sent my 604 to IM for exchange last Tuesday and got it back Monday. They new one doesn't have any of the cosmetic issues of the first one, so this weekend I need to get them programmed.

Can anybody please comment on how the Intermountain SD40-2 locos compare to the Kato SD40-2 locos?

Are they better detailed? I would assume they do from my experience with Intermountain F3/F7 locos compared to Kato F3/F7 locos.

And how is the speed? Can you build a consist easily from both Intermountain and Kato SD40-2 locos? Or is the speed difference significant?

As far as speed goes, I would assume that (in DC) Kato loco will be much faster.  Kato locos are well know speed-demons and IM mechanical are very similar to (or based on) Atlas mechanisms (which are slower).

Also of note on the current reservations, all undecorated models are now marked as TBD, as well as all F7/9/P units where they did have an actual month listed previously.  All future SD40-2 releases are now marked earliest delivery of May.

Gettin' close! When they get to the first batch delivered to UP in '72 and '73, I'll sign up.

Could be in for a couple of 8000s, too. Those are a couple of years out of my modeling period, but the 6900-8000-6900 "Fast 40 Sandwich" was so iconic on TOFC trains in the late '70s/early '80s in my modeled road and region I would be unable to resist... take my money, please!.

The major issue I had was the incorrect fuel tank size...one email and a couple of days of waiting and all that is fixed now.
