Cool truck!

This week I finished up these cabeese. These are former Kisatchie Gulf and Northern cars I shortened and added Kato cupolas,Shapeways trucks, and handmade grabs. And of course painted and decaled to match photos.. Dee left a bunch of banana peels in them but they were otherwise in great shape.

I also finished up this S2, except for the marker lights, I have not figured out what I'm going to use for those.

I remember going into French's Train House as a kid.  I vividly recall being blown away by a Lionel Bascule Lift Bridge they had on display.  Would guess French's lasted into the early to mid 70's.

1604 Dusty, Rusty and Oily. Used a white wash, watercolor pencils and acrylic paints. The boys have
wiped away the dust on the logo and numbers. I can't find any pictures of weathered BNSF locos. Rust
Never Sleeps or attacks BNSF paint jobs.

The last two weeks have been busy with the start of another school year, but they have also been significant for me on the model railway front.

I have taken a bit of a break from layout construction lately, but my control panels have arrived and I can now proceed with getting my mainline turnouts powered up:




The centre panels are a general schematic for the sidings patterned on the British Columbia Railway's Condensed Track Profiles.  The smaller panels either side have mounting holes for the the toggle switches and they will go at each end of the siding directly in line with the turnouts.


I also received four of the latest run ALCO RS-11s from Atlas:




These will eventually become MLW RS-18s.

Tim, have you run any of those RS11s yet? I got one, but sent it back to Atlas in mid-August. Lights on but really wouldn't run. Still waiting for mine to get back to me.

Been busy working on the shelf layout this week, and it's starting to look like something! The G&W GP38 is pulling some cars into to spot...

Now for some serious trailer fun!  After several years, my home road trailer fleet is finally complete.  The British Columbia Railway operated a sizeable fleet of trailers for its size, including dry vans, heater vans, reefer vans, and flatdecks.  Approximately 13 per cent of the railway's trailer traffic went to Dawson Creek, and with additional traffic to Chetwynd, Fort St. John and Fort Nelson, I needed my own sizeable fleet.

The campaign included sourcing a custom cast resin and etched metal kit for the distinctive Can-Car trailers, asking Jeff Briggs to produce a kit for the flatdeck trailers, and acquiring custom decals.  Chris Dittmar (BCOL 747) painted the van trailers for me, Jeff Briggs painted the flatdecks, and I applied the decals.  Jeff Briggs applied the weathering, paying close attention to the reference photographs I supplied.  The last and most enjoyable step for me was the creation of a variety of loads for the flatdeck trailers.  And now, here they are - all trailers are forty feet in length.

No, I was not aware of any issues.  I have a short DC test track so will check them out and report back.

So.....I converted a pair of FVM boxcars to scale couplers....
1. I just finished off a bottle of Cab Sav....
2. I ran out of scale couplers....
3. I had a pair of each of the standard and long shanks...
4. I think that the long shanks look better.
