Will people actually buy this?

The Cascade Sub thread led me to eBay, where I can't help but click on links.  One was this layout - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Model-Train-Layout-N-scale/171849216911?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D38530%26meid%3D6ee958d235714eb5b1380c322b5383d8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D131913071342

Go to the second to last pic and look at that trestle design.  Shaking my head...

The detailing is AMAZING!

Can't argue with that...

I'm throwing my layout in the trash and taking up knitting.

I love the airy trestles and the very artsy photography with the low "sun" angle. It is probably some senior citizen living in a Florida retirement community just trying to make a buck while having fun doing it.  :)

Don't we usually post this type of stuff in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=27701.0 ?  To my it fully qualifies for that thread.

A little bit of lens flare doesn't hurt that trestle photo.

As they say, "There's a sucker born every minute," but I don't think there's one that stupid.  If that layout sells for $1,800.00, you'll see the Seaboard Central 2.0 on eBay immediately.

Eh...  Not everybody has the same eye for realism, either in building or buying.  I'm not so sure my very first scenery attempts (that trestle not withstanding) were much better.  If it has "play value" someone may want it.

I totally agree, Dave, but it's advertised as, "This is the highest quality scenery you can get.  The detailing is AMAZING!"  That's just plain false advertising right there.

It totally depends on their baseline. If their life experience with "professional" model railroads is, for instance, Northlandz, I could easily see that they might think what they've done is the cat's meow. Same goes for somebody whose baseline is Lionel layouts - that trestle :scared: is something that totally works on a toy-grade model, but also indicates their knowledge of 1:1 doesn't extend beyond being stopped at a grade crossing and watching the choo-choo pass.

I suspect the latter, given the Bachmann trainset foob loco and rolling stock.

...But I bet you didn't try to sell that first attempt for 2 grand!  :D That is my issue. This layout has a place and a market but likely at somewhere closer to a fifth that price or less...

I have posted this quite awhile ago on another board in a thread about fleabay so it has been listed for sale for at least 6 months with no takers. My favorite is the trestle made out of sticks and flex track (hey, they at least used flex track, also check out that snake track on the left) and the total lack of ballast or cork on the entire layout.

Will people actually buy this: No.
