But isn't the H0 water tower modeled after a 1:1 tower?  Then the N scale one would also be prototypical.

The plastic N scale tender they used in that photo has molded-on hatches.  If they actually cut it open for this photo then it would not longer depict the original model and they would have to add a disclaimer that the hatch was modified for the photo.

It is not that bad  guys - give them a break!  Save your energy for critiques about Bachmann GG-1!   That is so much more fun!

I guess I see your point. But if the H0 tower was also "faithful reproduction of the filling stations found on many water stops on Americas railroads" then the N scale one would just be a scale down version.  While the entire description is a bit awkward, I didn't find it all that amusing.

I guess BLI should have skipped mentioning the H0 version. or simply wrote "Broadway Limited Imports is proud to once again pioneer sound in N scale! Just like our HO Water Tower, the all-new N scale Operating Water Tower is a faithful reproduction of the filling stations found on many water stops on Americas railroads. "

I get it.

I can absolutely see a place for it.

Think about it this way.

If you're modeling a yard, and you're trying to replicate engine servicing procedures, this would be a fun way to add some more immersion other than "spot at water tower, count to 10".

I can't imagine there will be a huge market for THAT, but again, it's an opportunity for more serious modelers to take advantage of something offered for the Smaller Lionel Set.

Oh well...  A sound-equipped water tank might be fun.

When do we get the operating N scale distillery?  I could get by on 1/160 of the output of a real distillery.

I've seen layouts with facia buttons to provide coaling and water sounds, I agree with Ed that properly implemented it could contribute to immersion.

I'll be waiting for an "operating" ashpit that spews a cloud of clinkers and ash out of a undertrack pit as if the fire was being dropped. Glow of a red LED, too, that fades out.
