The prototype CR 7182 was a Phase 3 GP9

The model in the photo is a Phase 3 GP7, and off the top of my head, would probably closest to an ex-NYC Phase 2 GP7 with dynamic brakes and a winterization hatch:

I think you can accuse PC loco's of a lot of things... too much dirt... too much grease... too little maintenance... but too much paint?  Nah.

Dude, I would love to have a Phase 3 GP9. The majority of the PRR fleet, including those ubersexy GP9Bs were those.

I know, there are options to do them, but I like fast and easy.

This was actually a very old model, and might be my second model done during my Conrail renaissance, around 2003ish. I had bought the underlying model for something like $25 from, I want to say, Dale's Enginehouse, right there by CP Sheetz in Perdix PA, before it closed. It was painted black, with the hatch and the horn how they are. At the time I was modeling a freelance line so I was excited by the cheap power.

A few months later the Conrail bug bit, and I was like "eh, paint out time". Of course, it was before the days of http://conrailphotos.thecrhs.org/, so I kinda just winged it.

I basically keep it around for nostalgia's sake, and to trot out every once in a while when I want to do an early Conrail throwback, but I'm not investing much time into it. Hell, it doesn't even have a decoder in it.

If anything, I might just get a new GP9 shell and start from scratch. But if I do THAT, it might end up with some mating worms on it, and just keeping them.

If you could remove the winterization hatch, it looks like CR did have some ex-RDG and ex-PRR Phase 3 GP7's with dynamic brakes (and no winterization hatches) per the pictures on pages 2-3

If you decide to re-number it as an ex-NYC GP7, a bell on the long hood would be a relatively easy detail to add.
