Let's let this thread stay with the "game changing" announcement instead of turning this into a reiteration of the "I want a k4" nonsense. I have no use for these turbines although they look great and there's a few models I'd love to not have to make multiple copies of, we shouldn't muck up this thread with it.

I have absolutely no use for a UP turbine, but after seeing one at Indy, the thing is just so well-done I might have to buy one just because.  I can always run it on our Ntrak layout at shows.  It is one of those iconic models like the FEF that I'll kick myself for not having one day if I don't.

Meanwhile, those of you who would like to see the rivet counter version of an SD40-2 produced need to let Shane know.  It won't be cheap (I'd suspect a sound version would be $200), but if there is a viable market, they may pursue it.

John,

I think NKP was going to get a turbine  :D

Just paint out that UP stuff and slap some NKP reporting marks on it and scare the heck out of your N-scale Lorain OH etc.

I think there may be a job for you in the old Con Cor marketing department.

The first 500$ plastic loco , is that what they mean by game changer? :ashat:

Well technically its two locomotives and a tender in one, both with sound. And the price is exactly the same as my pre-order of the Athearn UP 4014.

I guess its just how you want to look at it. I'll be getting an #18 as well, even though I have no real use for it. Guess I can change the history timeline around a little bit.

Ha! That made me laugh out loud!

I don't think Con-Cor would patch it. They'd just paint it straight NKP.

When you compare the price to what a Con Cor Pioneer Zephyr or M10000 goes for, it is not unreasonable, given the 2 motorized units plus tender, and level of detail.  For that matter, in this day and age where the MSRP of an F7 is $100 and up, figure what you would pay for an ABA with sound.

So far, unfortunately, they seem to be targeting a modeling market outside my mid 50s, Chicago locale, interests.

I'm taking the position that they had to be delivered from Erie across NKP rails, and a curious engineering department decided to fire one up "just to see what she'll do."  So I'm going to double-head them with a Berk in front and put 200 cars behind :D.

I'm not saying it's an unreasonable price!...And I realize 499$ is the MSRP,not the street price.....In fact, it seems like a pretty good deal when compared to Bachmann's 399$ MSRP on their 2-8-0 with sound

Well this was only proven to be a Super Turbine on the 1st , the same day as my thread . I will forgive myself for the other thread given that 3/4ths of the 15 pages were guessing games . They need to make # 1 or 2 ( nothing like telling somebody to use the head ) in as delivered prior to Dec 1959 details please . Otherwise no sale for me , damn .
