Athearn Challenger CV changes???

Tonight I tried to adjust headlight brightness, CV 49. Default is 15. I set it too 100. Now no headlight. Whistle CV changes didn't seem to have any effect. Yes, Athearn says to do a power down to reset decoder. Using NCE Power Cab.

Joe,
If you are doing this in the programming mode, when you select CV, the DCC system reads it first.  When you read the Cvs you changed, do they show the values you entered or the old (or even some random) values?

did you try setting the CVs you modified back to the original values (hopefully you wrote them down).  It is always good practice to record the original values, so you can easily undo your changes without resetting the entire decoder.

For most CVs there should be no need to power-cycle  the decoder afterwards.

Pete, using progam track mode. Just set headlight cv back to 15, and it's on. Yes, I do see the cv values with NCE cab. Manuals have the presets nect to cv #'s.
 Think I want to reset loco to default, and start all over.

Well setting it back to what manual with loco says for default, has left me with a loco that just sits and makes air pump(?) noise. No motion,bell, headlights or whistle.
 It's back in the box for now.

It is usually easier to just set the CVs you messed with to their original values.  Usually a factory reset sets the loco's address to a short address of "3".  Did you try running it using the short address of "3"?  Or just reprogram its address to whatever address you want.

Joe, out of curiosity, is yours a Tsunami-equipped Challenger, or one of the earlier runs with an MRC decoder?

So what happened Joe?  Did you check and/or reset the address after resetting the decoder?  Or try it using short address 3?  Did you get it to run?

Have it on track now. It does run on DC. Had a "CAN NOT READ CV", while trying to reset address to 3. Cleaned track where loco is. Will try again.
 Stay tuned......

OK, it's running now on DCC. NCE manual is unclear to me, anyway, about just keeping short address 3. Tried to skip setting long address, and it wants to adjust motor control. Reset address to loco#, 6704.    I think the sound on the BLI M1 is far better than the tsunami, out of the box.

Has anyone changed out the LED on Challenger, for a brighter, incadescant LED?
