Weekend Update 4/3/16

My son and I did a train show with a layout we built..... gentlemen; there's no greater feeling......

I tried blindfold after it was suggested. It's much too gray in my opinion and it dries with a somewhat semi-gloss, plastic sheen. It also went on heavy. It was OK after dull coat but I still miss grimy black.

Update to my search for Grimy Black......I have found it but it is an expensive option. I had to work at the shop this afternoon till close and in the process, did another extensive search of the paint racks. There is one I missed because it has been out of stock for a while (like just about every other Tamiya paint right now). Tamiya Rubber Black is a dead on match, it sprays beautifully, doesn't fill in detail and dries quick......unfortunately it retails for $10 a can (for the little rattle can. Nato Black is also another good option. It is a touch lighter gray but still not as light as the Blindfold color and it is about $6 a can.

Pictures later, after the glue dries from my crash damage. I dropped it on the way from the paint booth back to the work bench. It's all back together minus a very small section of ladder that I don't have in my inventory to remake.

I was up late watching Capitals lay an egg in Phoenix, building trees.  We had a very strong late season arctic blast/cold front move thru Saturday night.  All of a sudden, I hear a loud roar, from the basement, and then the house shook.  Ran upstairs to meet wife coming out of bedroom, " what the hell was that ?"  I knew immediately we had lost at least one very tall but also very clean Japanese Maple in the back yard.  It snapped off about 15 ft up, dropped straight down then against the back porch roof.  Still another 25 ft above the roof.  Hoping it holds together until morning to at least get it off back porch.

That caboose count could land a lot of our menbership in a lot of trouble.  Watch your comments gents... remember ... Safety First !

My, my ....

I had no intent to insult anyone with this post.   I was only thinking that there are ladies who either participate in our hobby or support those of us who do and some might take offense. 

Actually I had a cartoon image in my mind as I typed my post of a "typical" model railroader looking at his trains after having just made the caboose comment and seeing something, perhaps a coupler knuckle, flying at the back of his head.

Here it is, in all it's glory Tamiya TS-82 Rubber Black. I dry brushed PollyScale rust over the details to highlight them a bit and age it slightly.

I have just been called a knuckle head . I think there is a silent majority that will give you a glad hand of applause . I knew it would be a broken vote . I will curb my humor in the future to things that are funny without insulting anybody , like Trump , AD Clay , and somebody else . Not mad , surprised , or glad just a  .

It's spring on the Mahoning Division, but in the real Mahoning Valley it is 28 degree and covered in white stuff.

I just finished Amtrak 323 last night.  Getting the stripes to lay down was a pain.  Had to break out the Solvaset.  Now it needs some weathering.

Whoa! I like what you've done with ALTO! Is this the N scale kit?

  Yes, it is the N Scale Architect kit.  Unfortunately, it is more like TT scale.  Here is a different angle.  I made it look more modern (mid 60s) than the kit by putting the sloped pieces under the bay windows and covering some of the window sashes.  The signs are printouts made in Paint.

What happened to Woodland Scenics’ Extra Coarse scenery products?
I was using them for false background flats and now can’t find them at retailers or on the WS site?

The humor and restrained moderation is one of the big reasons I like this forum.  Being almost exclusively N-Scale helps too.
