Loksound Select Micro: Can't Enable Random Sounds

I have not been able to get "random sounds" to work with the LokSound Select Micro I installed in my SD9. The sound I want is the random air compressor, which does work fine manually with F20 (not randomly, but on continuously until F20 is deselected). I have, however, been able to get the short air pop-off to work randomly upon prime mover start-up. With the recent arrival of my Atlas S2, I see (hear) that it has both the short air pop-off and random air compressor working. I've tried to match up the supposed control CV's to no avail, and as per the following passage from the LokSound manual....

"5.2.7.10. Random sounds
The LokSound Select offers some random sounds, such as air compressor. This sound will be played-back in random intervals. You can adjust the “rate” for these sounds.
In CV 61, you need to set the minimum delay between two random sounds. The unit is 0.25 seconds. The default value of 75 results in 18.75 seconds.
In CV 62, you can set the maximum delay between two random sounds. The unit is 0.25 seconds. The default value of 200 results in 50 seconds.
If you don’t like random sounds, simply set CV 61 = 0 and CV 62 = 0 to disable this feature..."

What else am I missing? In most of the sections in the manual, there is a CV32 warning, telling you to make sure CV32 is set to 1 or 2 before making changes (usually related to volume). This section did not have such a warning, so I nervously tried the CV61 and CV62 changes with CV32 set to 0, 1 and then 2...all to no avail.

I too have the same problem, I set the CV's 61 & 62 many times and still no random. I set the pop off to come on with F8 with the prime mover but did not think it was random enough so I removed it from F8 and have not heard it as yet since doing that. Out of curiosity I posted this problem on ESU's forum but to be honest I do not expect to get any response. I think some of the "random" sounds are listed in the chart showing default CV settings for the volume. I set the compressor higher than the default and also lower and have still not heard it. Yes, I checked CV 32 to be sure it was set correctly before making changes and it has been each time. Personally, I think that CV32 deal is a PITA. Maybe they will wake up some sunny afternoon. In the mean time I think I will enjoy a cool one.

If you use Decoder Pro for these values, it will automagically take care of the index CV 32 for you.

I posted this issue on ESU-USA's forum and received an immediate reply from Matt asking some questions about what I had tried and some other things. Per his request I sent him an e-mail so he would have my address. I told him that I had turned the random sounds volume CV to the default and that I had tried changing CV's 61 & 62 many times with no luck. He sounds very committed to finding the answer.

I'll keep you informed as well.

As I suspected, it was a hot issue for a time, but I have not had any additional dialogue from ESU. Typical ! I guess my "little problem" does not warrant much time.

I don't know Carl. If it has been a month since your last communication with Matt at ESU (and he seemed to be responsive and interested in helping), I would contact him asking for an update.  A month is a long time.

I know what you mean from some past experiences as well as this current one. I know of 3 other excellent DCC guys who have the same problem with the 567 file. My thought is there is a problem in the file that ESU does not want to admit or publicize. Oh well, it does seem to me that ESU needs to make up the Corp's. mind as to how committed they want to be to USA market. Perhaps they should put some more bodies into Matt's operation, he can't do it all. I also think that they are against the wall by taking on, what seems to be, a large increase in "factory" install, or supply of decoders, for manufacturers.

Well, thanks for leading the charge on this, Carl. My hunch is he had the best intentions but the issue was possibly more complicated than expected and other things started taking priority like maybe these factory installs. To be honest, I'd rather they focus on a slightly slimmer sound decoder board at this point, although my wallet would take issue with that!
