I just received a notification that more Atlas S2s in sound and non sound versions, including undecs, have arrived at MBKlein.

I wonder if BLW is getting any and if my pre-order from the first run of undecs is still valid?  Time to email Pete...

So torn.  The CGW S2s worked pretty much just in Chicago just like the GPs.  I do have a shot of one post-merger still in red paint on the Waterloo engine track.

Hmmm.

Dang. If I didn't just blow my budget on reserving a small fleet of FedEx trailers, I would've picked up an undec sound unit for sure. :| ;)

...you can see how loose my 1995-2005 timeline has become!

Wish I'd hit the lottery next couple weeks, I'd think about buying an undec for Vulcan Quarry at Bittinger on the CSX Hanover Subdivision.

I ended up picking up their last GTW non-DCC version. I had been vacillating about buying the sound version but the timing wasn't right to pull the trigger.

My undecs are supposedly finally in route from Pete.... had them reserved for like ever.
But, he can't sell what he don't get. I'm pleased he didn't forget.

I ended up emailing Pete and he said he could send me the two I ordered. The original order was from April 2013 so I don't know if he would have sent them anyway, but I got the shipping confirmation on the 14th and USPS says they will be here on the 17th.

BLW put up the "in stock" announcement for the S2's.  Get 'em while they're hot -->http://www.blwnscale.com/atlas-s2.htm

Hmmm, do these only come with horizontal grilles? I reserved one horizontal and one vertical.
We'll see what comes in the mail.

(There appear to be three types of grilles on these: horizontal like UP, undec; vertical like NH; and horizontal like D&RGW? Or maybe the third one is just an optical illusion where the operating rod shows better in some photos then others...)

I bought the wrong version to strip and ended up buying new grills from Atlas.

Mystery solved, well in part. My two undecs arrived today and they come with an extra set of grilles so one can choose a horizontal or vertical set. The steps, railings, horn etc. come unattached which should make painting much easier. Thanks Atlas, these are exquisite, I suspect I'll be buying more...

I'm still unclear on the louvers...the Undec and UP and others have horizontal grilles split in half, whereas the D&RGW has an additional set of vertical detail...is that an optical illusion, or an third style grille?

Extra shutter options, I'm sure do to the altitude and climate.

The parts diagram in the bottom of the box only shows 2 different vents. I think what you are seeing is lighting.
