Athearn SD 45 DCC Ready

Still taking baby steps here but need some information about a Athearn SD 45 that's both DCC ready and sound ready. Without having the mode in my hand how  do I choose the correct DCC sound decoder and speaker for this loco ? Do all DCC decoder manufacturer's make a decoder for this loco oopr is there a specific one made especially for it ? And if multiple manufacturers make decoders which would be the best and easiest to install ? I believe this loco has the 9 pin DCC plug inside so I'm assuming something is made to directly plug into the jack.

I don't have the model but the 9-pin plug is an easy clue as to the compatibility.  The NEM 6-pin plug is the easiest and also most basic plug-and-play DCC interface.  While it is really easy to install any 6-pin mini decoder, it only supports the motor and headlight functions. No additional functions or sound.  All those need to be hardwired. Also sound decoders do not have the 6-pin interface  and are larger than the space available for the decoder.

If you want sound, you will have to modify the locomotive and hardwire the decoder.
