Inter mountain ac12

I have a Intermountain ac12 that is Dcc and when I took it out of storage and put it on my layout the loco works flawlessly. but I'm not sure, well really can't remember if it had sound , but I hear static coming out of the tender. I was wondering if the sound portion can go bad or does it need a refresh from sitting for some years unused? When I bought it I never even tested it as I didn't have a Dcc system then but now I do but I don't want to mess things up. Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.

If you've got the box and hence can identify the IM part number for the model a quick search on the net should reveal whether the loco came fitted with sound.  This site is always very good for that type of thing.
