Correct K4 sand dome @ Keystone Details shop on Shapeways!

@eric220 , My plan is to cut the OEM crossover "tube" and drill two corresponding holes into the housing on each side (biased to the rear) and insert the individual shortened halves into the drilled holes. if the hole is deep enough, it may not even need to be glued so the dome could be removed.

I decided not to add dimples in the design for drilling because this dome can also be used on other PRR locomotives, such as duplication @mmagliaro 's dome shift on his excellent I1sa

Personally,I think the slot in the OEM dome looks awful.  IMHO, that dome is the worst feature of an otherwise outstanding model.

Very awesome.  I may have to try this.  It's no worry to try to match DGLE since Bachmann just painted it black, LOL...  Besides, weathering makes everything blend.

This is actually a very interesting solution for solving the sand dome discrepancy present on the Bachmann K4s, as well as a great resource for future locomotive build projects requiring said dome. Curiosity begs me to ask, but are these available yet? I personally do not require one as of now, but I would sure like to know how they look in person and how they turn out in general.

@ChristianJDavis1 yes they are available for purchase now, I have sold 12 so far. I am awaiting feedback from those customers.

Thanks for making this part available.  I have 3 K4's and agree the Bachmann dome doesn't look right.  Your part appears to be a nice fix for this.  Looks like I'll be doing some shopping on Shapeways soon.  I look forward to future offerings.

If you are open to new projects, a detail set for the Kato Mikado would be very welcome, especially the handrail stanchions, bell hanger, and bell. There are a LOT of Mikes running around without them.

While this is a good idea, I think you would be reaching the print resolution limits. Plus the resin used is fairly brittle, especially for very small parts like those.

Yes, @peteski even printed in FXD the min wall thickness is 0.3mm or 0.012".

I was afraid of that. Guess it's back to cutting the eyes off of #16 dry fly hooks for stanchions, still need a good substitute for the bell hanger/bell though.
