Anyone try putting an Atlas SD35 shell on a Kato SD9?

Seems like a silly question.  But, Has someone tried to replace an older Kato era SD9 body with a current SD35?  Or is the Kato drive a bit wider like the early GP35s?

The SD35 drive fits the SD-9 shell,but the SD-9 drive is a bit to fat to work with the SD-35 shell.

Curious as to your reasons.

Is it a DCC issue.

Say..... you have an older Kato shell you like, but the old chassis is not DCC friendly?

Because if that is the issue, there are at least two solutions besides what you are talking about doing.

I have a very smoothly running SD9 but I was thinking of using it to power a SD35.  Looks like the answer is above...

Oh  Ok.

So could your dis-satisfaction be that you have an SD35 that does not run as smooth as you would like?

If so....  Is it a pretty old SD35?  The early release was 2000.  Later release was about 2005.

The SD-9 chassis is a bit on the chubby side.If yhou have access to a mill you could mill the outside of the frame halves to get the chassis thin emough to fit the 35 shell.
