I have a project that may be as easy as switching the wood door on the Single Sheathed car to a steel door and I'm wondering if the door from the Steel Rebuilt car will fit.  Also, if anyone got one of the undecorated Single Sheathed cars, does it really come with both wood and steel doors like it says on the Atlas site?  I'm guessing it doesn't because Atlas says the same thing for the Steel Rebuilt cars but I know they only come with the steel doors, and there has never been a release of the Single Sheathed cars with a steel door.  I've talked to Atlas about this, but they don't seem to wan't to change anything in the description.  :|

So will the steel door fit the wood car?

Thanks,

Jason

Yes the doors are interchangeable on all three USRA boxcar models.  I don't remember whether or not the undecs come with both style doors (I'm vaguely remembering that they don't, but I am uncertain), but Atlas indeed has released cars in that configuration when appropriate for the prototype (such as the Pennsy CK scheme).

LOL, the one I missed.  Thanks Bryan.  Do you know what end that car has (7-8 or 5-5-5)?  It looks like a 5-5-5.

Fairly sure it is 5-5-5. But it was in the first release and isn't easy to track down at this point, so you're better off getting the undec version desired, and then getting an undec rebuilt if the steel doors are not included.

I will look later today at my stash and see if I have any untouched undecs to determine if both door styles are included. Both styles probably are included now that I think about it, as the PRR car was released a couple of years before the steel rebuilt variation of the model was introduced.

 :)
PRR X26[?] cars were USRA Originals,so they had 5-5-5 ends.
20s copies of USRA cars had 7-8 ends.
doesn't MT make the Double Sheathed USRA boxcars ?
those doors may work,or make wood doors from scribed Evergreen styrene.
many of the PRR cars got replacement Youngstown doors in the 30s shoppings.

I just checked my stash.  I had an unopened single-sheathed 5-5-5 undec.  Wood doors only.  So you'll have to buy the single-sheathed and the steel rebuilt to get the doors you want.  Or locate a PRR car on the secondary market and strip it.
