C&A PRR FM Class Flatcar

Camden & Amboy Models is proud to officially announce that it will be offering a limited-run kit of the Pennsylvania Railroad FM-class flatcar.

Already in the early stages of development, the kit will be comprised of a one-piece cast-resin body (sans deck and brake detail), laser-cut wood deck, separate brake wheels (2) to allow for the modeller to build it per its original or updated configuration, and cast-resin brake cylinder. Trucks/couplers not included.

Bolster holes will be sized to accept Micro-Trains kingpins, and locator dimples will be provided for body-mounting the recommended Micro-Trains 905 (Z/Nn3) couplers.

Scaled from an original PRR blueprint tracing and original photographs, every effort is being made to insure that the resulting kit will be as true to the prototype as possible.


A brief history of the FM class:
The PRR's FM Class flatcars were built in the PRR's Altoona Shops between 1902 and 1913.
The FM Class were the workhorses of the PRR's flatcar fleet until the 1930's with the introduction of the F30 Class.
These cars lasted in great numbers through the 1950's, the number of cars in revenue service having dropped to 364.
By 1968, 3 FM class flatcars still remained in service.
As the FM class flatcars aged, the majority of were transferred to MOW service.

You may want to rethink drawing a line in the sand for Z scale couplers. If anything, do it for N, but accommodate for Z. I would test both for sure.

Finally a 40' flat car is going to be made!!!  This is one of those cars that has been largely overlooked because so many roads ended up buying many more 50' flat cars... definitely something to be glad about!!!

The plan is to either find a common point for both sizes of couplers to be body-mounted, or for separate dimples for each type.

We are in the process of photographing all the remaining items from the original product line, and will have everything posted onto the facebook page within the next couple of days.
The majority of what is left are 30's style vehicles, a few types of trailers, a few different detail parts, 3 wood roofs to turn MT hoppers into sand hoppers, some AC roofs for Rivarossi coaches, and a massive bag of animals that I haven't even begun to look through.

I didn't mention decals only because that is going to take much more coordination with outside sources so it will take some time to confirm.

So, I know Jeff Faulkner was offering decals in both revenue and MOW when he was offering his FM kits.
MVS did MOW decals. He has like 250 sets of them.

He also did F22/23 decals due to PRRPro demand. He even did them in N based solely off the availability of a Shapeways model. Talk to John Frantz. I'll likely see him this weekend and mention it if I remember.

Mark5:  And didn't the Atlas 40 ft car end up being imported by other companies as well?  I chopped a couple in half (lengthwise) and made narrow gauge cars from them over 30 years ago.  Those were one of the earliest N scale flatcars.

Wasn't that car made by Roco?  I think I have one of those custom-painted for B&M and I don't think Atlas ever made one in that scheme.  And I'm not talking about the recent Red Caboose 42' B&M flat cars.
