Persistent ghosts, on Monday's southbound branchline turn:

1) A GO Train at Whitby, ON., with bobtailed F59's... only a handful of them remain as protection power. They run bobtailed and this is about the only way to catch a GO locomotive on the west end of a train. Notive that puke green new image coach... yuck.
2) CSX interloper trailing on an X371 at Lovekin, ON.
3) Prince Albert Park brings up the markers on VIA 68 at Whitby. Not in revenue service, headed east for overhaul (iirc).
4) Mid train DPU on an EB crude oil at Whitby. Not a normal occurrence. Typically all power is up front on these trains, certainly here on the Kingston Sub.

Friday turned out to be rather damp and gloomy for a good part of the day, but I went railfanning anyway.  The first four are at Montoursville PA:









Later at Gang Mills NY, westbound 12T stopped to do some switching with this rare bird in the consist.



A short time later at Adrian NY.  Spring hasn't quite made it to the Southern Tier yet...

CSX Q398 with an interesting mix of power.

I wonder if that NS was one of the SD40-2's involved in the SD80MAC trade?  CSX has patched some - left them black and put the large new CSX logo on the side.  I see some of the NS stripes on the long hood but it looks incomplete so maybe the NS is just painted out and not CSX logo yet.

I don't think it is. It looks like it's got a GP38-2 air filter box. The trade was for a bunch of SD40-2Rs (SD40-2s in SD40 carbodies).

Yes, it's a GP38-2.

Yep.  Missed the filter bump at the top.  5575 is part of the group of GP38-2's leased by NS from FURX, returned in 2013 and currently on lease to CSX.

Are you sure this locomotive (In fact all in the 5500 series GP38-2's) were not sold or traded to FURX for the ex-BN SD40-2's? The info I have on 5575 is it started life as NW 4145 (GP38AC) and was rebuild as 5575 GP38-2.
