I'll kick this off by sharing some of my efforts over the last year on Custom Amtrak cars - mostly Kato.
Let's see what else is lurking out there!

Very nice work. I want to model every passenger train I see, and your work makes me want to model Amtrak. I think I have a problem.

Quite the collection you've got there! I like how you've detailed the interiors. Have you done any window tinting? I am thinking about doing that but haven't tried yet.
Looks like one of the cars is a former Santa Fe Pleasure Dome? I got to ride in the Plaza Santa Fe last summer...what a beautiful car!

Nice paint and detailing job! The only thing that looks a bit off is the size of the marker lights.
What paint did you use for sliver? Looks really good!

I'm 'assuming' you used the Micro-Scale Amtrak set for the Phase 1 schemes.
For those of you that haven't done that.... it requires the utmost decal skills of anything I've ever attempted, as the white strips are add-on over the painted-on red and blue stripes.
Conversely, if there's another way to do this, I'm all ears! I've done two Phase 1 Pullmans (modeling '72) and I'm sorta glad I don't think I have to do any more. Ever.
That's a standard 10-6 Kato with the skirts removed and trucks redone, repainted, and with 'easy-peazy' lighting installed. I also did an old MRC/Rowa Pullman Standard 10-6 the same way; early Amtrak, Phase 1.

Really, really great looking stuff!
Besides adding fiber-optic ditchlights and red reverse light to my original-release Surfliner F59PHI, I've only finished one custom Amtrak project so far, which was a transition sleeper kitbash before Kato made theirs...
I guess the only thing mine has over Kato's (for now) is Phase IV livery, which matches the era I model.

Beautifully done! I particularly like the interiors.

Sweet! Love me some Amtrak, and that PH II F40PH was sexy!
... But I was hoping to see some Horizon cars when I saw the "Custom" & "Amtrak" in the title lol

[ Guests cannot view attachments ] Thanks for the positive reviews on the models posted so far.
Here is a prototype photo of the markers on the ends of 2 Amtrak Heritage cars. The craft beads I ended up using are the closest thing
that captures the look.
Answers:
The Phase 1 cars were a combination of microscale phase 1 and 2 decal sheets - except the former ATSF pleasure dome and CB&Q Silver River - those were painted red and blue areas with the white
striping added between the windows. A fun paint job.
I only tinted the windows on the upstairs of the pleasure dome with a light green/blue wash. Tinting the windows on heritage fleet cars is pointless as it would look very dark gray smokey bronze color.
Silver - on the painted cars I used Valspar Metallic Silver - a dead ringer for Kato's stainless steel when gloss coated.
Disclaimer - I had plans for an extensive Amtrak fleet, as these photos show, but I have since sold off all the pieces pictured, and continue to work through my planned roster. I have sold direct and on Ebay in the past.

Some custom F40 love to kick start this thread again. Both units are happy at their respective new homes. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Amtrak Ph 3 Baggage Dorm - a "close enough" from a Kato Sleeping car, and Amtrak Ph 4 8601 Automat car from a Union Pacific ACF/SLCC coach. Both of these are happy at their new home also.
