CB&Q Silver Buffet

 The CB&Q acquired new equipment for Twin Cities Zephyr service  in 1947 including two Baggage-Buffet-Lounge cars, Silver Salon and Silver Buffet. They made daily round trips between Chicago and the Twin Cities and looked something like this:





Resin castings are now available from Skytop Models.



BTW, all castings are now coming in a gray colored resin!

Its a real beauty.  Folks, remember that this car and Silver Salon went on to service Amtrak as AMTK 1720 and 1721 before being rebuilt to baggage - coaches and being renumbered 1601 and 1602.  Thanks for all that you do to help promote modeling N-scale Varnish!!!  Will get this casting added to the Burlington and Amtrak listings at the User's Guide within the next day or two.

Looks like a winner. Great work.  As Wabash 1601 is supposed to follow Silver Vista  would you consider Wabash 650 to follow Silver Buffet?

Bob, I don't have any plans to model Wabash 650. To tell you the truth, I don't know what's next. Wabash 1601 is totally up to Mike Skibbe and I don't know where he's at with it.

Nice cars.  If you did the NKP City of Cleveland and City of Chicago I would be mighty tempted to get them.  These cars wen on to GTW Chicago-Toronto service and later to Amtrak.  NH also has some cars of similar design.

I don't believe the trucks were changed on this car so use Kato Budd Post-War (skirted) trucks. Kato is out of the silver trucks but the black one's can be painted or check eBay.

Also the MicroScale Pre-war decals can be used for the BURLINGTON in the letterboard. Car names can be pieced together although it is a little tedious.

BY 1972 the skirts were gone, so it would take some work to match the Amtrak version, as well as different trucks.
