Is there a standard CV setting to get the headlight on one or both ends to stay on all the time regardless of direction of travel? This without having to remap to a different function key?

Yes it can be done, but dependent on your decoder selection. If you can provide the name, make, social security number and credit card.

For now, it would be for a Zimo MX621. There's volumes of info in the online instruction booklet for a gazillion possible adjustments and settings, but I haven't spotted that one.

for Zimo MX 621 :
front lights = Always on = CV 125 bits 0 and 1 (see the manual for value)
rear lights = Always on = CV 126 bits 0 and 1 (see the manual for value)

Sorry I can't read value as ...
1- I'm at work
2- I'm check on JMRI screen
3- I've forget to manipulate manually any CV using JMRI!

This is one more good reason to install it on you PC.
Cheers

Thanks! I did find that info too but I'm still really terrible at calculating bit values. I never seem to arrive even close at the proper number. Here are the listed bit values....

Each bit has a specific value:
Bit 0 = 1 Bit 1 = 2 Bit 2 = 4 Bit 3 = 8 Bit 4 = 16 Bit 5 = 32 Bit 6 = 64 Bit 7 = 128

It seems to me that the CV setting would be 3, but my experience is that I'm not even close and that setting did not work.

As Enzo says get JMRI and an interface and use your mac or pc. It makes programming such a breeze.

Oooh, got it! :D Had to change CV33 to 3. This gives me forward headlight on, regardless of direction. I forgot I had to do a direction change thing when I first installed the decoder as it was running backwards, so front and rear headlights are apparently dealt with in CV 33 and 34 as opposed to 125 and 126 in this case.
