Trees - Deciduous and Palms

Was thinking a little pricey but what caught my eye was the palm trees.  Has anyone checked these out?

compared to other 'finished tree' manufacturers...not too pricey at all...!
the palms do look fantastic...may have to seriously consider these for the Southern Cal-LA series of modules.

Being a SoCal modeler I've always been on the lookout for good palms.  Finally fired up the laser and started to make my own.   So far I've made about 30, most going to good homes on John Signor and Bruce Petty's layouts.  Now I gotta scale them down and do the 50 or so I want on my N scale modules.   
  The gold standard for me is a convincing Eucalyptus tree.  There's an Australian company that makes Gum trees that are almost spot on.  You only need to add some color to the trunks to make them more realistic.  I think they are Austrees or something like that

WOW!...
nothing says "Southern California" like eucalyptus along the roads and/or right-of-way...
just last evening I took a Google Map 'walk' through my old neighborhood in Orange, CA...Goodness!...things sure have changed since the early 70's!
Orange no longer has any Orange Groves!!!!

Those palms are excellent, Joe.  I look forward to seeing the N scale version when you produce them.

As an Australian who is modelling southern Oklahoma, I was always pleased that I didn't have to model gum trees. But when I asked my friend who lives in the area that I model, what sort of trees he has around him, he said "Eucalyptus".

Absolutely gorgeous! How do you make them? Laser, you say?

Yes, I laser cut the fronds and made a pattern for the trunk and cast it.  I am modeling it now in N scale having sized everything down 50% or so.  Still trying to get the fronds to look right.  I molded in a nob on the top to hold a small lump of Sculpy I could stick the branches into.  Once done I hit it with a blow dryer on hot and low speed to set the sculpy...prime the whole thing and paint.  John Signor and I are going back and forth on the right colors, of course his look brighter and more accurate...mine a re a bit more subdued.   Once I get all the components squared away I'll post some shots.

have you tried the Washington palms?...the only palm actually native to Southern CA?...I REALLY need a few of those!!!!

I think the fonds look great what are you using for color? My plastic/feathers/paper have never looked right color wise.
