Athearn Challenger front coupler

I know the recommended coupler is the MT 1016. Has anyone put a Z scale coupler in front and double headed with it? I don't care much for the over sized look on there, though its not as noticeable when you have something in front of it.

If it has a separate draft gear box, the MT Z coupler should fit in the space fine, although it would need shims top and bottom, and should work fine for double heading.  If the draft gear is cast into the pilot, I don't know how much work it would be.  The biggest problem I can see is the length of the coupler.  The 1016 shank extends much further than the 905, and there may not be room for the trip pin on the tender of the front engine.
