If you have a Case-IH dealer near you, they should have the correct paint.  I used Floquil Soo Line red because it looked very close to me.  The only IH equipment I currently own is my corn planter, and it is very faded.  So, only the new tractors leaving the factory would likely need to have a perfect match.   

Thanks for the suggestion.  I don't know why it did not occur to me, but following up on your Case-IH dealer suggestion, I did a web search and sure enough, plenty of dealers out there with parts (and paint) new, old, restored Farmall tractors.  "Farmall Red" for tractors manufactured between 1936 and 1985.

If you have a Farm and Fleet or similar retailer in your area, they also carry paints matching many popular tractor and construction brands, past and present. Not exactly in hobby-use packaging, but still...

Thanks, that is a good idea, and sure enough.  Have a store between here and Walmart (the way that one measures distances nowadays in the rural Midwest).
I figure I'll just buy a rattle can - I live in a rural area with a Tractor Supply - our version of Farm and Fleet- in every town with a population over 2000 within 50 miles.  I checked, they carry it in Rustoleum and a couple other brands.  Also Massey Ferguson Red, Oliver Green, Kubota Orange and several other useful colors.

My riding mower (styled to look like a tractor) is 20 years old and needs a paint job.  So extra paint won't go to waste.

I'd be a little concerned about the rattle can obscuring the details. The pattern making for the GHQ model is superb, it would be a shame to loose its crispness.

I was kinda kidding.  And I will probably do as you suggest, as long as I can find something other than Santa Fe red in my paint box.  Because that is on several locos and the American LaFrance 700s.

I do find it interesting (well, ok, frustrating) that local stores carry paint to match a 75 year old tractor (same store where I get lawn mower blades and belts), but the closest model railroad paint is 65 miles away.  The closest good selection of model railroad paint is 100 miles.

I really don't think it is that much of a problem unless someone is color blind, and relies on the paint's name for a close match.

It is one think to be extra fastidious when trying to match a paint for a passenger car, but here we are talking about a tiny model, less than 1" long and without much of a surface area.  Honestly, any bright red paint should work just fine. Then there is the scale effect some modelers to consider when painting models.  If you were to apply that here, you would have to lighten up whatever red paint you use.  That would then no longer match the original pain.  And then there are the decals themselves.  The tiny lettering is not perfect either (because at 600 dpi the tiny letter shapes are rather coarse).  How far you take the accuracy is up to you.

I mailed out all the orders on Saturday.  First Class Mail. Hopefully they will arrive at their destinations in few days.

The mailings include an informational sheet, but just to show what the decals look  like, here is the artwork (in PNG bitmap format).  The smaller lettering "like TORQUE AMPLIFIER) is not really readable on the decal - too small to render properly on the 600 dpi Alps printer.  The gray color objects are printed in metallic silver.

Mine arrived as well.  The print is really tiny- I had no idea an Alps could print to that resolution.  @peteski -Thanks for taking on this project.

I'm glad you guys are happy with your purchase.  Yes those Alps printers can do some really fine printing (even though they print at only 600 dpi), but some of the really tiny print on this decal is hitting their resolution limit.

Nice job on those tractors Doug!  The front grille logo is a bit oversize, but I figured that I would rather make it legible than properly scaled.
