East Wind (ALM) Pennsy 2D-P5 trucks - what next?

I have negotiated in principle an arrangement where ESM will release a run of the East Wind trucks.  I'm currently in discussions with San Juan to confirm it remains feasible to reissue the product.

I am inclined to release simply the truck frames, bolster beam, bolster screw, coupler pocket and brass screw, with two sets of components per package to equip one model.  The plastic wheels seem (to me) to be a waste of cost, given that the overwhelming majority of consumers who would purchase these would swap in metal wheels.  As it is, given the design of the East Wind tool does not include the bolster beam, one of the standard ALM truck tools must be run as well to obtain the bolster beam.  This already doubles the production run cost.  Not having the plastic wheels (which would require running a third tool) should help keep the MSRP down.

The initial run most likely will be 500 sets but it could be as many as 1,000 sets.  To be determined is whether or not the product still can be sold through normal distribution channels (as opposed to direct-only), since the tool-owner must be compensated as well as San Juan Car for running the parts.  This may be a one-shot deal, as it will depend on the final costs as well as demand.

What are everyone's thoughts regarding not having wheels included with the contents?

UPDATE:  No cost difference between 500 sets and 1,000 sets on the production side, so the initial run will be 500 sets.

I'm OK with no wheelsets, and I'm in for a stockpile's worth.

I always throw away the plastic wheels that come with the ALM trucks and replace them with metal wheels.  Go ahead and leave them out.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Same here, no wheelsets is fine, especially if it makes it cheaper.

No wheel sets for me either. I would replace them with FVM wheels anyway

Be sure to specify exactly which wheels (diameter and axle length) would be needed.

Wheels not needed here. Just make sure the axle length is known.

As long as the Fox Valley "Std." type wheelsets will work, I'd love a few sets.

The three-piece thing scares the heck out of me though. Are they easy to assemble without any shifting in the position of the sideframes so that my anxiety doesn't kill me?

There are far far FAR more things to stress out over than ALM-designed truck frames.  8)

Axle length should be the same as InterMountain metal wheels which is .553".  That's what the ALM trucks used to be.  That will be confirmed and included in the package instructions if/when the time comes.  Diameter is the same as with all passenger equipment, 36".

Cody:  I've never had any trouble getting them together.  They're a press fit, so can easily be adjusted as much as needed, and any solid flat surface will work for making sure they're straight.  Once assembled they can be glued, but I never did.  If they get out of square due to wrecks or rough handling just twist them back into position.  As long as they're left on the track, or handled with reasonable care, they should be fine.
