I feel no compulsion at all to defend N scale, but I do feel a need to make sure that people don't forget Rich Yourstone's work:
This is modeling that positively reeks with atmosphere.

Yes, incredible and truly inspiring, on several levels.

Looking at some of these photos I am guessing that some use the photo stacking hardwware ?  When taking these photos do you just focus on a point progressively farther from the foreground for each exposure ?  I have not tried to use any of the photo stacking software yet , but I may in the future . Photos just turn out so much better !

Basically it's just moving the focal point but that doesn't mean just doing that will always work.

If you do a search here for 'helicon' and you'll find threads going back to 2007 (Was that a forum change?  I thought it went back further).

Late to this photo party...I just *had* to pick a bridge shot. :)

Anyway I feel absolutely no requirement to justify N scale to anyone on any basis.  Nor do they need to justify their scale choice to me.  I think any scale "trumpeting" is silly... regardless of if it is HO or N or anything else.  Dismissing another's choice is very closed-minded, as is promoting your choice as the "best way" to do things...like those who insist on one DCC system or another or won't accept any ballast unless it is "real rock"...

Hey, I thought these were supposed to be photos of models!!  All kidding aside awesome work everyone.  Now that I am getting my final track adjustments and additions wrapped up I am looking forward to scraping together some time to start scenery.

Ah man, this thread makes me want to get back to this stuff. Such excellent modeling.

I wish I had something new to contribute, but here's an old photo from one of my never finished projects.

You're stuff was always killer Caleb.  You are one of the more talented young modelers I've seen.

Caleb:  Looks very much like early fall here in eastern Kentucky.  The brush is still green, but some of the leaves are falling, and the grass is going dormant.  Around here that would be "Fall Wildfire Season".  Nice job.

Sagebrush for the fallen tree in the foreground?

Unbelievable work and photographs!
This is one of my favoriites, and while not anything like what the masters on this site continually produce it is also not toy like, and everyday I strive to improve my skills.

When friends and family see what I have accomplished, they are amazed at how NOT toy like my layout is. I have no desire to be ultra realistic but I don't want to be toy like, and N scale today couldn't be farther away from that description than it is.  I am sure all of your wallets and significant others would agree.

I don't know much about Maine, but that scenery looks very much like some of the wetter parts of the Northwest.  Replace the diesel with a BN Bicentennial unit and it could easily be western Washington, northern Idaho, or northwest Montana.  Certainly not "toy-like".

Man you guys need to pick up Aussie prototypes that way with such high quality modelling we'll get hi quality RTR support and amazing images like that to show the HO guys.

That said it's only in the last 10 years that they've gotten decent outline RTR stuff.

Okay, so I'm completely dumb about this... but...
Is there, or has there ever been, such a thing as an actual Railwire calendar?

(And of course, some poor souls,
probably the moderators, would get the thankless job of choosing the 12 photos and then being
castigated because they didn't pick this one or that one).

It would be cool.

EDIT:
A 10 second web search just looking at Vista Print shows that they would be about $8 a piece, and about $6.44
if the quantity hit 100.  Hmmmm.....
