Weekend Update 11/30/14

Some beautiful work in here this week, folks!  Jason... love the glowing firebox.   Aren't you going to tell us how you are doing it???   

I took a ride on the Christmas train here in Portland, behind old friend SP&S 4-8-4 #700.   I then finally bit the bullet and back-dated my model.  When I originally made this a few years ago, I used gold heralds and numbers because that's how #700 is painted today.  But in fact, it never wore that herald in real life.  It wore the white herald and then later the simplified thin-line gold.  There was never a wide-band gold emblem.

Since I had the decals made, I had no excuse... so here it is in its 1938 - 1950 scheme:

Dee:  Don't feel bad.  Pennsy classes aren't the clearest, at least not to those who aren't Pennsy fans.  The R1 was an electric motor, so why not the R50?

Thanks Max, the new decals look great.  The firebox is pretty simple. It's a TCS M1 decoder with an LED installed in a drilled hole in the firebox door and a hole drilled underneath with a second LED.  It's Cv 49 to value 33.

I've done others that actually look better with a bulb -The lights really flickers out from the sides of the firebox.  I just really like this GS1 so I had to show it off.

There is no class R50 or R50B.  The correct designation for the car is RB50.  Think "Refrigerated Boxcar."

I think Bryan's ESMC x58 underframes would work on those cars as well...and save you a bit of time lowering them.

That's what this conversion uses Tom, with BLMA trucks. Whilst not quite plug-n-play, it's a pretty quick and simple conversion once you make it work. I'll post a write up when I'm done with the detailing and weathering.

I spent a few hours repainting Kato's handrails on these two. Try not to laugh too much. Oh well, its an improvement over the out of the box look - I hope. I'll probably do more work on them after they age a while longer.
